Subiaco Vet

Postby Leanne » Wed May 21, 2008 10:12 am

I have been going to see Greg Wilkinson in Subiaco for a very long time (over 25+) years and he is great, along with the other vet, Michelle Luckhurst. There contact is;
Subiaco Vet Clinic
107 Railway Rd
Subiaco 6008
Ph: 9381 2291

I generally tend to use Michelle these days for my rats as she has owned her own rats in the past. Down side is she only works Thursday and Fridays now.

Thanks for that Info Leanne.

It is always great to hear about Rat friendly vets and even better when the vet has owned or does own ratties.

ive never used them for rats but we've taken the dog and my cats there a number of times and they were always great.
i developed a new fondness for them when the male vet (greg i guess) gave a woman a hard time about getting her dog docked. i was relieved to see he had strong principles about the wellbeing of the animals not just the bill at the end.

it's great to hear about a vet still caring more about the welfare of an animal than the bill at the end. :ryes:

thanks leanne for the info - I think we saw info on that vet when we were looking a number of years ago, good to have confirmed that they are good. we go to Rabbit Medicine which is convenient for us - but good to have backups!

I can vouch for Subiaco Vet. I am so happy with this Vet!!! Greg and Michelle are both lovely and they seem more concerned with caring for animals than with earning money. They always try to minimise costs and what really impressed me is that they don't jump at any chance to operate (as a so called rat/exotic pets specialist in Perth seems to do).

It is the only place I take my rats (although I've heard many good things about Morley) and know a few people who take their dogs there too. I've never heard a bad word about Subi Vets.

I highly, highly recommend it:)

I went to see Michelle on Friday just to get Squigg and Peanut checked out for their spay and discovered that Michelle is pregnant. I'm sure going to miss her. She's going to wait and see till after the baby is born about returning to work.

I thought we could also add approx consult costs for the vets listed so people have an idea what sort of $$ they will require (possibly useful for those who are new to rats and treatments etc).

Any other surgery type things you have had done with this vet and average costing ie tumor removal, spaying, neutering etc.

Well I don't personally pay for any consults at Greg's, not sure if it's just rats or cos I have been going for over 25+years or that I take all my "fee" paying animals there as well. The rest of figures are
Spay = $120 (girls)
Tumour removal = $80
PTS always free.
Meds vary but I pay $33 for a tube of Vibravet, the only drug I regularly get off these guys ( and Frontline for Ascot, my cat at about $33 for 3 months ).

OK posted from other thread. Subi vets will do the surgery internally for boys as they they think there is less chance of herniation post op. I know that Liz does that too at Rabbit Medicine. I may add that Michelle is about to go on maternity leave very shortly so I'd get a wriggle on if anyone wants ther rats spayed soon, she does a wonderful job with closing the stitches and I haven't had a chewer yet. I think they charge about $100 per rat for boys and $120 for girls.

My rat Splodgie had two tumors removed by Michelle two weeks ago and recovered beautifully. I've taken my rats there from day one as by chance I lived in Subi when I first got my rats. I've only ever been to one other vet for a rat issue and never went back. It made me realise I was onto a good thing.

They -care- about small animals and -know- about small animals. Even though it's a bit of a drive, I'll make the journey because I know it's worth it.

Highly recommended!
