30th June 2008 - Amy

We now have a new rattie in our midst. Her name is Amy (No pun intended) and she is an Agouti Berkshire. She is about 6-8 months old and apart from a slight myco, a nervous demeanor and a good bite on her. She is doing well so far.

16th June 2008 - Merlin

We received a call this morning about a lady who had a pet rat living in her backyard for the last couple of days. He was coming to the covered area off the back of the house and playing with her kids. She could not keep him as she is renting and not allowed pets.

Poor boy was out in the horrid rain today.

Anyway he is now here in the heated house.
I think he must be under 6 months old as he has a very soft coat still.
He is very friendly indeed.
He is a black mismarked hooded boy.
Merlin & Rella have since been rehomed with a lovely couple who we know will care for and spoil them both for the rest of their lives. For more updates be sure to visit the Forum.

12th June 2008 - Rella

We would like everyone to welcome "Rella" into the PRRR fold.

"Rella" (short for Cinderella) was in a pretty bad way when we got her. Her skin was all cut from scratching herself, her breathing laboured and she is very underweight. She had also been living on wood shavings (the sort that splinter) and compressed wood which has been known contain formaldehyde resin from which a gas is produced. With this information we felt that her chances of survival were slim. We took her to the vet this morning and have been given medication for her breathing (she is still a little live wire) and some medication for mites, worms and parasites.
Her skin condition is due to an improper diet, the skin is very dry which is possibly causing the itching so we are adding omega 3 & 6 oils to her food until her skin improves.

11th June 2008 - Rescue of Orphans

Today we had 10 Orphans delivered to us. Their mother was killed by a cat. We are currently hand rearing them as they are only 1 week and 1 day old. Their chances are not looking that good but we will try everything we can to help them survive.
