In your roll as a foster carer you will be required to care for a Rat or a mischief of Rats on a short or long term basis depending on the individual Rat or Rat groups needs however if you are not available for long term care there will be no pressure for you to take the animals that require this care.
Some Rats that come to Perth Rat Rescue & Rehab may have special needs and may need :
A specialised Diet.
Medication
Extra Handling due to behaviour issues.
Extra heating or cooling.
As a foster carer you will be expected to care for the Rat or Rats in your care, catering to their special needs when required. We will endeavour to cover all costs associated with feeding, medicating and housing the Rat or Rats.
We would prefer our carers to be experienced with caring for Rats as we feel that most Rats that come to us will have had some major upsets in their life and will need a confident & experienced foster carer.
If you are considering volunteering as a foster carer for PRRR we respectfully ask that you consult all member of the family (living with you) and make sure that all are willing to participate. We understand that some people may find it extremely difficult & heart breaking to care and rehabilitate an animal and then hand it over to another person when the time is right. We do not wish to put anyone under great emotional pressure which could lead to our carers becoming ill.
If you have consulted your family and they wish to be involved with the care and rehabilitation of rescued Rats and you can offer your home and heart to a Rat for a period of time please read and fill out our Foster Carer Application.(Either in MS-Word or Acrobat PDF) You can e-mail the filled out application to us at volunteers@prrr.org or contact us on 0439784326 for additional postage details.
